西館 WEST GALLERY

The stone pedestal of the guardian deity in the courtyard is an ancient foundation stone from the Daigokuden (Imperial Audience Hall) of the Heian Palace. To commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the founding of Heian-kyō (Kyoto), a monument was erected on the former site of the Daigokuden. At the request of the Kyoto City Council, the inscription on the monument was written by Yamada Einen, the 11th head of our family, who was well-versed in the Daishi-ryu school of calligraphy. This foundation stone was presented to our family in gratitude for his contribution.

EAST GALLERY

From the Aioi Well in the East Gallery, a pure and abundant spring still flows to this day.
